The Human Milk Foundation works directly with hospital neonatal intensive care units. We need help to scale up operations rapidly, so that the most vulnerable babies can continue to receive life-saving donor milk over the next few months.
Please help us to fundraise by giving what you can and sharing this page. Thank you.
Tiny babies are very vulnerable and at risk of a number of conditions such as necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) – a condition which kills more babies than childhood leukaemia. Human milk protects babies against this, so when mum’s milk is not available or when she is very unwell, donor milk acts like a medicine to protect the baby. We provide donor milk, donated by mums who undergo screening tests much like those who give blood. For premature babies, donor milk can be life-saving.
We take safety incredibly seriously, and work according to the NICE Clinical Guideline for the operation of a human milk bank. Every process at the Hearts Milk Bank aims to remove any risk of transferring the virus, and you can read more about how we are working with experts and donors to ensure safety here.
To pay by phone, text HELPBABY to 70470 to donate £10, or HELPBABY with the amount you would like to donate (e.g., HELPBABY 3, HELPBABY 20).
☑ £10 pays for a milk donor onboarding pack
☑ £20 feeds a premature baby for a day
☑ £50 keeps our volunteers delivering milk for a week
☑ £100 pays to fully recruit one milk donor – whose milk would feed on average 20 babies
Hospital NICUs require more donor milk during the COVID-19 crisis. We urgently need to scale up our milk bank operations to meet this demand. The increase in capacity will mean lab team members working extra hours, more equipment, recruiting more milk donors and transporting larger quantities. 💙💗
