Our Sussex Hub in the News

Our Sussex hub is run by the brilliant team of ‘Blood Biker’ volunteers at SERV Sussex. Roy Stagg from the group talks about how much it means to him to deliver donor milk to babies who need it, in this piece featured in the Daily Express.

Our Sussex Hub

The Hearts Milk Bank Sussex Donor Milk Hub opened in 2022, in partnership with the SERV Sussex Blood Bike group. Located in Lancing, the hub allows more sick and premature babies in the region to receive safe, screened donor milk and supports donors in the local community to donate their precious milk. Roy Stagg, blood biker at SERV Sussex says “there’s a joy in meeting those donating milk and delivering directly to those that need it, who are equally happy to receive it. It means a lot to be able to help – I feel so very proud to be involved in what we do.”

SERV Sussex

SERV Sussex is a UK registered charity (Charity number 284455) that provides transport services for blood, blood products and other urgent medical items for NHS Hospitals across Sussex. These brilliant volunteers also collect donor human milk from local milk donors across Sussex and deliver it to the Hearts Milk Bank HQ in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. Once the milk has been pasteurised and passed microbiology testing, the blood bikers transport it back to the hub in Sussex where it can be stored ready to go to hospitals and families who need it. We are so grateful to the heroes behind this life-saving service – without them we could not do what we do.
