For all of you amazing milk donors out there, you may have concerns about doing the right thing at the moment. Donor milk is needed now more than ever, and we are hugely grateful for your generosity. As a critically important milk donor, we wanted to send some information on how you can help us protect babies, our team and yourselves:
- While we are hugely grateful for your donations, please ensure you have adequate supplies of milk for your own baby or babies. We are acutely conscious this is a stressful time, and that can impact supply, and having spare milk in the freezer for your own contingencies will be important.
- If you have symptoms of Covid-19, please do not pump milk for donation until the 8th day after becoming symptomatic.
- If you are in contact with someone who has become ill with symptoms of Covid-19, please do not pump for donation for 14 days afterwards.
- If you have sent milk in to the milk bank, please include the first and last days of expression of that batch on the Donors Do It Safely form. We will contact you 2 weeks after the last expression to make sure you have been well during that period. Let us know if you need more forms sending out.
- As we know you do already, please keep regular hand-washing and breast hygiene routines. Change breast pads regularly if you are using them. Make sure your pump is washed before use, with hot soapy water, on a hot water cycle in the dishwasher, or using a steriliser.
- When a courier collects your milk, they will leave the open bag on your doorstep. Please wash your hand before handling milk, and then ensure milk is in one of the clear plastic bags we provide. Knot the bag, and place into the courier’s bag. They will then zip it. If the donated milk is too heavy to lift please use a second bag (we will be sending extra out with new containers and with the couriers).
